Goal
Explains various documents such a Transfer Requirement (TR), Posting Change Notice (PCN) and Transfer Order (TO) used in Warehouse Management.
Demonstration video explaining the structure and content of Transfer Requirement (TR), Posting Change Notice (PCN) and Transfer Order (TO).
Overview
System uses two types of documents such as planning documents (Transfer Requirement – TR & Posting Change Notice – PCN) and an operational document (Transfer Order – TO) to plan and executeĀ warehouse movements.
It is always mandatory to specify the IM movement type and storage location (for a quantity managed material) to post a material document in inventory management. If the storage location is subjected to Warehouse Management, then the quantity of the material document is stored as a quant in an interim storage area of the receiving warehouse number. Based on the movement type and customizing settings, the system can generate planning documents such as TR or PCN which can further be converted into an operational document, TO. TO can be printed in case of paper based operations or can be accessed via radio frequency (RF) based hand-held devices.

Transfer Requirement (TR)
This is not a mandatory document but this can be used as an aid for planning warehouse activities such as picking and putaway, and this forms the basis for creating TO.
Whether TR is required or not for a given inventory transaction is decided by the customizing setting made in the warehouse movement type determination table.

Creation
WM movement type controls if a TR can be created manually or not. If at all manual creation is allowed then the requirement type setting controls what should be the reference requirement number.
For example; for manual TR creation with transaction LB01, WM movement type 201 makes it mandatory to enter cost center as a reference in requirement number field because movement type is assigned with requirement type K where as it is not mandatory to enter the requirement number for movement type 551 because this movement type is not assigned with any value in requirement type field.

Contents of TR
It contains key information required for creating TO creation that is collected from 3 different sources such as material document (inventory movement type, material, quantity, batch and stock category etc.), WM movement type determination table (WM movement type and TO creation requirements such as Immediate TO or Auto TO via batch job), and WM movement type (interim storage type and bin, automatic TO creation indicator, Shipment Type and Requirement Type etc.).
